   Rent

    A year ago, I knew an American at work. She was a year younger than me at the time. 

She was working and taking classes. We used to hang out a lot on our day off. One day 

she invited me to her house, and then I saw her younger sister. She said, I am tired. 

I was curious to ask where she had been and why she was so tired. She was like I just got 

off from work. I said, why are you working at such a young age. She told me that they 

had to pay rent to their parents every month. I was shocked because in China we don't 

have to pay rent to our parents. I think it was probably the first time I realized the 

difference in culture.
